New Project?
Earlier today I sent an email to my VP informing him that today
is my last day on the project I've been working on for the past 20 months. This means I will no longer be chargeable. In consulting this is called being "on the beach" or "on the bench". I prefer "beach". In addition, I told he though I'm working on some non-chargeable business development proposal work, that I should probably resign if I don't find a chargeable project by the end of the month. He's taking today off though so I don't expect a reply until next week. Of course, about an hour after sending him the email, I got an email from a lead on a project here in the Seattle area. They say my skills match perfectly for what their looking for, and I'm local too. So they seem really interested in having me work on that project. Oh great! I think I was actually hoping there wouldn't have to be a decision to leave the company and I would just have to leave because there wasn't anything for me to do. So next week I'll meet with them to find out what they plan on having me do. I think I'll probably try the project for a month, but if it doesn't meet the criteria I mentioned before (short commute, good project, passion for the work), then I think I'll have to quit. I hate to join a project and then quit a month later, but that's the way it goes. I'll have a better feel for it next week. Monday's a holiday, and I'll be busy all weekend with my parents visiting so my next post will be on Tuesday. Have a good holiday!
